Profile

Mr. Bronco BUT has been practicing and is practicing Hong Kong law for over 34 years out of which he had been a partner of a renowned solicitors firm (with a history of over 65 years) for over 26 years. He graduated from the University of London in 1987; obtained his Master of Laws Degree from the University of Hong Kong and Renmin University of China in 1993 and 1998 respectively;

Bronco was admitted as a solicitor in four jurisdictions namely Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Australian Capital Territory New South Wales of Australia, and Greater Bay Area of People’s Republic of China in 1990, 1991, 1995 and 2022 respectively.

He has also been appointed as the Accredited Mediator by various accredited organizations including but not limited to the Law Society of Hong Kong, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Ltd; the International Accredited Professional Mediator by International Dispute Resolution & Risk Management Institute (IDRRMI); Mediator of Guangdong Province Higher People’s Court; Mediator of “The Belt and Road” Connection Mediation Commission; “The Belt and Road” International Commercial Mediation Center. He has also been appointed as the Arbitrator of AALCO Hong Kong Regional Arbitration Center, Hainan International Arbitration Court, Guangzhou Arbitration Commission and Huizhou Arbitration Commission respectively; admitted as a Fellow Member of Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators (FHKIArb); a member of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has been appointed by the Chief Justice of Hong Kong as the Practicing Solicitor Member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel.

In addition, Bronco also provides legal services to clients on employment and personal data (privacy) issues.

Bronco has acquired substantial experience in insurance-related dispute resolution including mediation, arbitration and litigation throughout his thirty-four years legal practice with special focus on claims relating to employees’ compensation and personal injuries (including traffic, work-related and construction sites accidents), property damage, medical negligence as well as professional negligence. He advises insurer clients on the proper construction of policy wordings and policy related disputes with insured parties and other insurers including but not limited to employees’ compensation policy, third party motor vehicles policy, building owners’ corporation third party policy, contractors’ all risks insurance policy, as well as re-insurance treaties.

He has worked closely with twenty-three insurance companies including international, domestic and mainland insurers; intermediaries and regulators since 1990. The legal services range from defending insurers and insureds in large claims, to advising on regulatory issues and policy documentation.

Besides insurance, Bronco also focuses on dispute resolution involving cross-border mutual recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and judgments.

Bronco is the former External Examiner of “Personal Injury Litigation” of PCLL Elective Course of The University of Hong Kong and Alternate External Examiner of “Personal Injury Litigation” of PCLL Elective Course of The University of Hong Kong. Furthermore, he is the External Examiner of Alternate Dispute Resolution Course of Law Faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also a committee member of The Law Society of Hong Kong Personal Injuries Committee.
